Personal care

Personal care with dignity, at your own pace.

Washing, dressing and the sensitive parts of the day, handled gently by a familiar carer who never rushes you.

Personal care covers the everyday tasks that become harder with age, illness or disability: washing, bathing, dressing, continence care and getting comfortable in and out of bed or a chair.

We match small, consistent teams of carers to each person, so it's a familiar face helping with something private, not a stranger. Visits are built around the routine that already works for you, not a fixed script.

Who this suits

Is personal care right for your family?

  • Older adults finding washing, dressing or the stairs harder than they used to
  • People recovering from a fall, an operation or a hospital stay
  • Anyone living with a long-term condition or disability who wants support at home rather than a move
  • Families who want a second pair of hands for the morning or evening routine

Outcomes families tell us matter

What good care looks like day to day.

  • Feeling clean, comfortable and respected, not rushed
  • Staying steady on your feet with someone experienced nearby
  • Fewer skin, continence or hygiene problems left unnoticed
  • Family relationships freed up from the physical caring role, if that's what's wanted

What our carers can do

Practical support at every visit.

  • Support with bathing, showering and washing
  • Help getting dressed and undressed comfortably
  • Continence care, handled discreetly and without fuss
  • Skin checks as part of the normal routine, with concerns reported on
  • Support moving safely around the home, in and out of bed or a chair
  • Oral care and general grooming

Where we work with clinical teams

Honest about what needs a nurse or GP.

Our carers are trained and supported, but some tasks are properly the responsibility of district nurses, GPs or other health professionals. We're upfront about the boundary so everyone knows where they stand.

  • Wound dressing changes and clinical treatments are arranged with a district nurse or GP
  • Prescribing or adjusting medication is a GP or pharmacist decision, not a carer's
  • Complex catheter, stoma or PEG care sits with our specialist-trained team, agreed in the care plan in advance
  • Any new or worsening health concern is reported to family and, where needed, a health professional the same day

Common questions

What families ask about personal care.

Will it always be the same carer helping with personal care?

Wherever we can, yes. We build small rotas so the same two or three familiar carers come round, which matters especially for something as personal as washing and dressing.

How long is a personal care visit?

It depends on what's needed, but we usually suggest a little longer than the shortest visits, so nobody feels rushed through washing or dressing.

Can carers help with continence care?

Yes, continence support is a routine part of personal care, handled discreetly and with dignity as standard.

What if my relative needs a dressing changed or has a catheter?

Straightforward personal care sits with our carers. Anything clinical, such as wound dressings or complex catheter care, is coordinated with a district nurse or the GP, and any specialist tasks are only taken on by carers with the right training, agreed in the care plan first.

Can personal care start quickly?

Often, yes, particularly after a hospital discharge. Call us and we'll talk through timing as soon as we know what's needed.
