Live-in care

One dedicated carer, sharing your home.

Round-the-clock support and companionship from a carer living in, so you can stay in the home you know rather than move to residential care.

Live-in care means a carer moves into a spare room and provides support throughout the day, with a good night's sleep built into the arrangement. It's a genuine alternative to a care home for people who want to stay in familiar surroundings, near their own things, their garden and their community.

It suits people with higher levels of need, couples wanting to stay together, or anyone who feels reassured by having someone in the house rather than visits coming and going.

Who this suits

Is live-in care right for your family?

  • People considering a care home but who would rather stay at home if possible
  • Couples who want to remain together, with one live-in carer supporting one or both
  • People with higher or more complex support needs across the day and night
  • Families wanting one dedicated presence rather than several visiting carers

Outcomes families tell us matter

What good care looks like day to day.

  • Staying in the home and community you know
  • One consistent, familiar carer rather than a changing rota of short visits
  • Companionship built into every day, not just task-based visits
  • Family reassured that someone is always there

What our carers can do

Practical support at every visit.

  • Personal care, medication prompts and mobility support throughout the day
  • Meal preparation, household tasks and keeping the home running
  • Companionship, hobbies and accompanying trips out
  • Overnight reassurance, with sleeping or waking arrangements agreed in the plan
  • Liaison with family and, where needed, health professionals

Where we work with clinical teams

Honest about what needs a nurse or GP.

Our carers are trained and supported, but some tasks are properly the responsibility of district nurses, GPs or other health professionals. We're upfront about the boundary so everyone knows where they stand.

  • A live-in carer needs proper rest breaks and time off, built into the care plan and covered by relief carers
  • Two people with very high, round-the-clock clinical needs may need more than one carer, which we'd discuss honestly during assessment
  • Complex clinical procedures remain with district nurses, GPs or specialist teams, coordinated alongside the live-in carer
  • A live-in carer is not expected to carry out heavy household renovation, gardening or tasks unrelated to care and daily living

Common questions

What families ask about live-in care.

Does the live-in carer get time off?

Yes, proper rest and time off are built into every live-in arrangement, with relief cover agreed as part of the plan.

Is live-in care cheaper than a care home?

It depends on the situation. Our pricing page sets out guide live-in rates; we're happy to talk through the comparison honestly during your free assessment.

Can live-in care support two people, such as a couple?

Often yes, particularly where one partner has lower needs. Where both have very high needs, we'll discuss honestly whether one carer is enough or more support is needed.

What happens if the live-in carer is unwell?

We arrange cover so care continues without a gap, as we would for any other absence.

Does live-in care include household tasks?

Yes, everyday domestic help such as meals, laundry and keeping the home tidy is included as part of live-in support.
